Some days, it's difficult to stay motivated. I confess I'm having one of those days today. Every once in a while, things can feel a little overwhelming. Maybe it seems like you're doing all these fantastic things to help the animals and nobody notices. Or seems to care. Maybe you've been busy busting your you-know-what for a big holiday fundraiser. Then you admit 12 puppies that need vet care, so you really need that fundraiser to work even more.
The key is to not get discouraged or sound desperate or angry when you are searching for donations. People donate to great causes every day. They do it to feel good. We all know that bad things can happen. More animals always need rescuing, you'll encounter abuse, and sometimes you'll see truly terrible situations. But when you are talking to donors and setting up events, you want to project a positive image.
People want to donate to a group that knows what it's doing and is making a positive difference in the community. When people hear about a rescue that's desperately screaming for money and constantly in crisis, it doesn't inspire confidence. People want to know that their money is going to be put to good use, not mishandled by a bunch of incompetents. I know we all have bad days, but when you answer that phone or talk to that volunteer, consider the impact your words can have. Always do your best to project a calm positive attitude. When you do, you'll be rewarded with better results all around!
